During my time as a Peace Corps Volunteer (PCV) on the island of Grenada, my primary duties were as a literacy instructor at St. Peter’s RC Primary School in the fishing town of Gouyave. In additional to our primary teaching roles, Peace Corps Volunteers are obligated to fulfill secondary projects in and around their community.
One of my many secondary projects included creating news segments, titled “Peace Corps News,” that were aired on the national television network: Grenada Broadcasting Network. For these segments, I would coordinate with other PCVs to cover their ongoing literacy projects in their respective communities.
Creating these segments included interviewing PCVs and those in their community involved in the project: teachers, principals, students, parents, etc. With a lack of the necessary equipment, I shot and produced these segments using just my phone and personal computer. Below are a series of Peace Corps News Segments from my two years of service.
