In this feature with the Sierra Nevada Ally, the critical mineral economy being developed in Nevada goes beyond just lithium. Other critical minerals, such as copper, cobalt, and nickel, will all play equally integral roles in the renewable energy transition.
As such, new mining operations for these wide-range of critical minerals continue to be explored in the state of Nevada. Rural and Indigenous community advocates, however, have concerns.

My name is Scott King and I grew up on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio. I graduated from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio with a degree in Professional Writing and a minor in Marketing. Upon graduation, I joined the Peace Corps to teach literacy in the Eastern Caribbean where I lived in my host-community of Gouyave, Grenada from May 2017-July 2019. I have additional international volunteer experience in both Quito, Ecuador and Cape Town, South Africa prior to my Peace Corps service. I completed my Master's degree in Media Innovation from the University of Nevada, Reno, in December 2020.
