In this audio de-brief for the Sierra Nevada Ally, the nature of vanadium and it’s role as a critical mineral is explored. Vanadium has been of strategic importance in industrial and aerospace industries.
Now, the Gibellini Vanadium Project, a proposed mine overseen by Nevada Vanadium, may be coming online as soon as 2024 and would be the first domestic mine in the United States that will primarily extract vanadium. This development comes at a time when a new market is emerging for vanadium: long-duration, grid-scale storage.

My name is Scott King and I grew up on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio. I graduated from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio with a degree in Professional Writing and a minor in Marketing. Upon graduation, I joined the Peace Corps to teach literacy in the Eastern Caribbean where I lived in my host-community of Gouyave, Grenada from May 2017-July 2019. I have additional international volunteer experience in both Quito, Ecuador and Cape Town, South Africa prior to my Peace Corps service. I started this blog to tell the story of my Peace Corps experience while serving in the Eastern Caribbean.
I completed my Master's degree in Media Innovation from the University of Nevada, Reno, in December 2020.
I now live and work as a multimedia specialist in Arlington, Virginia.
